Embodying the Present: a Daylong Mind-Body Workshop

Meditation posture and mindfulness of body

Give your mind and body a rest.  Join teacher Dan Cayer for this special, daylong workshop designed to integrate mindfulness and traditional teachings with contemporary practices, including the Alexander Technique.

Learning body awareness allows us to bring mindfulness to our entire whole day, not just in sitting meditation.  In this workshop,we’ll learn to naturally develop curiosity and compassion towards everything that is arising in the present moment.  We’ll see how the small moments of our lives – brief interactions and transitions, unpleasantries like pain– offer opportunities to wake up, to feel whole in our body.  Participants will feel more empowered within their body with tools for improving posture.

Participants will learn techniques for integrating body and mind in meditation postures (sitting, walking, and lying down) as well as in daily movements.  This class will help you develop a friendly, sustainable approach to posture.

Designed for beginners as well as those with an established meditation practice.  Chairs, cushions, mats, and blocks will be provided.
Dan Cayer is a nationally certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and a meditator in the Shambhala tradition. After a serious injury left Dan unable to work or carry out household tasks like cleaning dishes, he began studying the Alexander Technique. His return to health, as well as his experience dealing with the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of pain, has inspired him to help others. Dan now teaches the Alexander Technique as a method of recovering balance and well-being. He advocates it as a fantastic embodiment of mindfulness and awareness both on and off the cushion.
