Coming Home: Using the Body to Recognize Your Wholeness
November 12, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm$45
Many of us feel we are “not enough”; that we are lacking in the qualities that would make us worthy, loveable, or successful. In this experiential workshop, Dan Cayer will explore how this harmful myth manifests in our body and posture through physical tension and stress, and by avoiding our body altogether through overly focusing on our thoughts and plans. As a result, we lose connection with our inherent clarity and wholeness.
We’ll learn mindful movement and awareness practices and learn to deeply listen to our bodies, and discover a healthy balance between overanalyzing and ignoring our experience. We’ll also incorporate the path of meditation and skills from the Alexander Technique as a reminder of our nature of clarity and wholeness.
This workshop will include instruction, guided meditation and movement practice, Alexander Technique exercises, discussion, and Q&A. Chairs and cushions will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes.
Beginners welcome. No experience with meditation or the Alexander Technique is needed.
Dan Cayer is a nationally certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and a graduate of IDP’s Meditation Teacher Training. After a serious injury left Dan unable to work or carry out tasks like cleaning dishes, he began studying the Alexander Technique. His return to health, as well as his experience dealing with the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of pain, has inspired him to help others. Dan now teaches the Alexander Technique as a method of recovering balance and well-being. He advocates it as a fantastic embodiment of mindfulness and awareness both on and off the cushion.
